Living in Seagrove Beach
C. H. McGee founded Seagrove Beach in the late 1940s with a plan for 170 acres: deeded beach, concrete block cottages, sand roads and a general store. In 1949 he built the Seagrove Village Market, a small store and gas station, and it is still known for its grouper sandwich.
Today Seagrove Beach runs about two miles along 30A, from Seaside east toward WaterSound, with about 20 public beach accesses. One Seagrove Place is the tallest condominium in the area and one of the oldest.
Dune lakes, a state park and the forest
Eastern Lake and Deer Lake are both coastal dune lakes. Deer Lake State Park has one of the longest dune walkovers in the county and is home to the endangered Choctawhatchee beach mouse. North of 30A, the Eastern Lake Trail system in Point Washington State Forest has 11 miles of trails for hiking and biking.
Homes in Seagrove Beach
Seagrove's first homes were one-story concrete block cottages, and homes have grown larger over the years. Condominiums like One Seagrove Place sit on the Gulf.

Butler Elementary, Emerald Coast Middle and South Walton High, and all four earned an A from the Florida Department of Education in 2026. Walton County was graded A for the ninth year in a row, tied for second among Florida's 67 school districts. Seaside School, the public charter made up of Seaside Neighborhood School and Seacoast Collegiate High School, serves grades 5 through 12 and also earned an A. School assignments depend on the address.
