The St. Joe Company developed WaterSound Beach in the early 2000s on 256 acres along the east end of Scenic Highway 30A. A staffed gatehouse on 30A controls access, and boardwalks and bridges cross the dunes to more than a mile of private beach.
Deer Lake State Park borders the community to the west, and Camp Creek Lake, one of South Walton's rare coastal dune lakes, is on its eastern edge. The private Watersound Beach Club sits on the Gulf, and the wider Watersound Club includes golf at Camp Creek Golf Club and Shark's Tooth Golf Club, with access depending on membership.
